An ideal whole food, plant-based lifestyle emphasizes vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, and beans. Nuts, seeds, and avocados are used sparingly. There is an emphasis on unprocessed or minimally processed foods, and all animal products, including dairy, eggs, and fish are excluded. A person following a healthy whole food, plant-based regimen also strives to exclude all added oil and to use minimal amounts of added salt and sugar.
